Hello! My name is Laura Renecker and it took me 29 years to capitulate to my artistic side. I am an artist and Model Institution is my first business. I have equal love for the jewelry and art I create as I do for my fledgling business. Starting, owning, and operating my own business is something I have wanted to do since I was 16; I just never knew what kind of business that would be until two years ago.

I came up with the name, Model Institution, in 2010, but didn’t begin actively pursuing my business venture until 2016. In June 2018, I opened my first Brick + Mortar in Tigard, Oregon. I like to curate my brick + mortar with quality items by ordering small quantities and regularly changing the shop up, which creates a different retail experience each time someone visits. Today, the shop is full of plants, oddities, crystals, various taxidermy items, curated vintage collections, and local artisan goods, which include jewelry, kitchen supplies, pet products, ceramics, candles, natural skincare, and so much more.

Each purchase on modelinstitution.com helps me further my business dream, which is to one day have additional brick + mortar locations. Each location would be run by a “resident artist.” A resident artist would be someone who wants to have their studio in a brick + mortar location, has a drive to learn essential business skills, and wants to grow their artistic reach so that they can successfully leave Model Institution to pursue their dream successfully full-time. Before I get ahead of myself, I need to stabilize my first brick +mortar, online shop, and wholesale lines; the cornerstones to my business model.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. -Laura

I have been adding more vintage items to ModelInstitution.com, but lets be real; it is a slow transition. Thank you for your patience!!!
